Whittier College History Orchard Project

In May 2019, the “California’s Golden Brew” project team planted a 64-coffee plant micro-orchard, in consultation with team member and farm consultant Scott Murray, Murray visited the campus as a short-term Fellow in the SUrF sustainability workshop series (10/5-10/6 2019) to help design and plant the new campus orchard. Murray routinely advises members of Whittier College Facilities on best practices and planting techniques and will periodically visit the orchard to provide follow-up advice.

In November 2019, 24 avocado plants (a mix of Hass, Reed, and Fuerte) were added to the coffee orchard and a variety of CA perennial natives have also been incorporated in the design to attract pollinators
